zhanel is an ai mixing engineer for your daw, made by sozlabs. this page says what we collect, why, who else touches it and what you can ask us to do with it.

your music stays on your computer

zhanel listens to your project on your own computer. what goes to our server are numbers measured from the sound (loudness, peaks, spectrum, width and similar readings), the names and settings of your tracks and devices, and what you write to the agent. the audio itself is not uploaded.

one exception, only when you allow it: splitting a reference track into stems. the app asks first, uploads that one file, our server splits it, the app downloads the stems and the file and stems are deleted on both sides.

what we collect

  • account: your email, your name and google account id if you sign in with google, and a hash of your password if you set one (never the password itself).
  • sign-in: one-time codes (stored as hashes), the browser and ip address of your sign-ins, and for each computer you sign in on its name, operating system, zhanel version and a hashed computer id.
  • invites and the waitlist: your email, which invite you used, where you heard about us and your daw, if you tell us.
  • chats with the agent: your messages, its replies, the project context the app sends with them (track and device names, parameter values, the numbers measured from the sound) and the references you attach (as numbers).
  • your taste: which of zhanel's changes you keep or undo, so it can learn what your ears like.
  • usage: each call to an ai model (which model, how many tokens, what it cost) and your credit balance.

why

  • to run zhanel: sign you in, answer your requests, keep your chats and your taste between sessions.
  • to count usage and credits, and to stop abuse (limits on sign-in attempts, one trial per computer).
  • to write to you about your account, and about early access if you joined the waitlist.

we don't sell your data, we don't show ads and we don't use your music to train ai models.

who else processes it

  • anthropic: the ai models behind the agent. your messages and the project context are sent to them to produce each reply.
  • google: only if you choose to sign in with google.
  • railway: hosts our server and database.
  • resend: delivers the emails with sign-in codes.

each of them processes the data only to provide their service to us.

cookies and storage

  • zhanel_session: keeps you signed in on the site for 30 days.
  • zhanel_google: lives for 10 minutes while you sign in with google, to check the answer came back to you.
  • your theme choice, and an invite code you entered, are kept in your browser's storage.

there are no advertising or analytics cookies.

how long we keep it

account data, chats and taste stay while you have an account. sign-in codes stop working after 10 minutes. when you delete your account we delete your email, sign-ins, computers, chats and taste; records of usage and credits are kept without anything that identifies you, for accounting.

your choices

you can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete your account: write to aleemzhaan@gmail.com from your account's email. we answer within 30 days. you can remove a computer from your account on your account page at any time.

security

passwords are stored with argon2, sign-in codes and tokens only as hashes, and everything travels over https. the app keeps its sign-in token on your computer and never sees your email codes.

children

zhanel isn't meant for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

changes and contact

when this policy changes we update the date above, and tell you by email if the change matters. questions: aleemzhaan@gmail.com.
